Although the waistbands were only on the side panels of the jumpsuit, the front and back were also internally supported by strips of what appeared to be grossgrain ribbon, secured to the front and back edges of the elastic, as evidenced by both screen-used uniforms "LtComm" and "ZipKikr1966" photographed and shared, respectively:

The purpose of the front ribbon was, presumably, to prevent the uniform from pulling open in the front and revealing the invisible zipper.
